Thank you for all your input and help, namely Christopher, Marc Ray and Noah
Mehl!

 

We finally got a brand new MacPro Dual with 3 additional graphic cards (the
same equipment Marc uses) and are actually testing our 5-monitor show. Right
now the show runs without any interruption since 5 days non-stop and: frame
accurate!

 

It was a little bit tricky to make all 5 streams start simultanously - we
finally found out, that adding a black leader of 1 second to each stream
(stream 1: 1 second leader, stream 2: 2 seconds leader a.s.o.) and starting
the streams via a start cue each with a one second delay, worked best for
us. Doing it this way, all 5 streams start exactly at the same frame.

 

We’re still “experimenting” a bit with the right video format – right now we
work with H264 in PAL 16:9 and the quality is very good. Although a “normal”
DV stream would be easiest to handel with regard to cpu load, DV streams
look rather poor. Does anybody have a hint on what video format woul be
best?
