[QLab] Zoom H2 surround mode & QLab

Hello folks,

I've just picked up the Zoom H2 Handy Recorder to see how well it performs
and I'm pleasantly surprised. What's really neat about it is the ability to
record in four channel surround and the ease with which these files can be
imported into Audacity and then exported as multi-channel wavex files for
direct use in QLab. The quality is not on a par with the high-end stuff that
I'm used to, but the spatialisation isn't half bad, considering this is a
$200 unit.

There's really no reason not to start experimenting with surround sound
effects at this price - I recorded the pile-driver that's shaking the
theatre here in Dublin and the resulting effect is definitely usable. Think
of the H2 as surround with stabilizer wheels and once you've mastered that,
you can graduate to Ambisonics (plug-ins, please Chris) and really get your
audience involved.

Oh, and Metric Halo MIO users, or potential Metric Halo MIO users, should
look out for some very interesting announcements at AES this week.

Best wishes,

--
