Thanks for the info Chris,

but - that still sucks. unfortunately i do have multiple video cards that
want to be used to project multiple sources. The Mac Pro seemed like the
only option because we needed so many sources. Unfortunately I am now
finding out that the new Mac Pro we just picked up today for this purpose
won't run anything less than OS 10.4.10. And guess what! OS 10.4.10 comes
with Quicktime 7.2, or at least the discs that came with the computer have
QT 7.2 bundled, and as we have already determined, that just won't do.

SO, has anybody ever come up with a way to downgrade from QT 7.2? Does
anyone have a version of OS 10.4.10 that came with an earlier version of QT?

If I can't get this MacPro to run QT 7.1.6 it will have been rendered
useless in this application....am i right on this one? Cause if I'm right,
i've got to replace this beast... and fast!

thanks.
j

Hi Jesse,

7.1.6 is the only version that is fully supported in the sense that it
is the only one that still works with multiple graphics cards.

Newer versions work as long as you don't need to use multiple graphics
cards. So if you don't need that, you're okay with 7.3.

Ain't it grand?

Several versions of Quicktime have come and gone since this problem
was first reported (and confirmed by them) in their bug tracking
system, and they have still failed to fix this (major) bug.
Considering that they don't also offer a way to downgrade to 7.1.6,
this puts you and I in an increasingly awkward position. Here's the
response they gave to my bug report:

   "31-Aug-2007 03:44 PM Vanaja Pasumarthi:
This bug has been closed as Duplicate.
Engineering is aware and tracking this
issue under Bug ID listed in the above
    bug State (Duplicate/XXXX). You may
check status of the original bug report
anytime by updating this bug report.

Unfortunately, my frequent attempts to elicit a response regarding the
status of this bug have been met with silence, despite what it says
above.

<grumble>,
Chris
