Maybe I'm completely crazy, but this sounds exactly like how the path
works in unix for your CLI programs.

Perhaps in the future Qlab could use a system where there was a
'default' path for the workspace, but you could add additional paths
in a list. Chris would have to determine in code which path took
priority if there were cues with identical names. For example if Path
1 and Path 3 both had a SFX.wav file, maybe Path 3 would get priority
because it is later in the list of paths.

This would allow, I think, Chris's idea of #3, because by default out
of the box you would have the standard path as you have now, and
advanced users can click a plus button to add additional paths. There
could also be a minus button to remove paths.

It would be nice if these paths were saved workspace wise rather than
environment wise. And maybe for those looking for a 'package'
solution the default path could be one that makes sense for packaging
the workspace/files/folders structure. So where you save your
workspace, it creates a folder with the WS name, a workspace file
inside that folder, and maybe subfolders for audio and video. Then
you could add additional paths in order to use other drives and/or
alternate files for different Cue sheets inside your workspace. This
is rather similar to how Pro Tools structures a new session, as well
as Digital Peformer IIR. You can also make Logic work this way,
although it doesn't by default. So people might be used to the concept.
