The 410's are about 1.5 years old. This is the first problem that I've had
with my personal ones. I have had other problems with the QC on some other
units I've used elsewhere. They are installed in a permanent setup, so
they don't get plugged or unplugged. (M-audio tells you very explicitly
not to ever plug or unplug these devices with the computer powered on.
That doesn't quite live up to the 1394 spec, so I'm suspicious of the
design of the FW bus on the inside)

Anyway, the point was that while these devices can be very good, they are
made very cheaply, which can lead to premature failure. As a result I no
longer recommend them to clients that do not have sufficient cash
flow/reserves to acquire another one if theirs should fail during the run
of a show.
