This is the default duration for all compositions when they are  
played back as Quicktime movies.  (i.e. the default for the entire  
system, not just QLab.)

You can change that default if you like by using the command line:

defaults write NSGlobalDomain QuartzComposerDefaultMovieDuration 300

(or whatever time you wish to use as a default)
