Hi Matt,
Here is at least one thing to check:
In general, if the cue has not been preloaded for some reason (which
is quite possible e.g. with hot keys) this can introduce an audible
delay. Sound cues load their buffer before playing if they haven't
already been preloaded, and especially with a large buffer size or a
compressed audio format (or both) that can introduce an audible delay.
If the cue is preloaded, however, playback should begin within a
millisecond or so. (I assume you've checked to make sure the cues
have no dead space at the beginning.)
You could also try playing the cues out the built-in output to see if
there is an audible difference between that and the 828 mk1. If so
perhaps there is a driver issue involved.
