(Of course, there's obviously a bit more to it than that, since the  
QuickTime Player application handles this file correctly.  The  
QuickTime Player, however, is probably not going through the same  
CoreVideo pipeline that I need to use.  Considering that the Apple  
sample code that *does* use the pipeline exhibits the same problem,  
and considering this new information about malformed MPEGs, I'm going  
to view this bug as out of my hands for the moment.)
