[QLab] video fades are popping in

When I "crossfade" between two videos, the incoming video does not
fade up from 0%, but instead pops on at a low opacity and then fades
up to full. It's annoying - and very visible (well visible to me).
I've got everything programmed properly -- it seems to be a
performance issue.

Even if I set things so that the outgoing video plays at 100%
constant, and the incoming video fades up from 0% ontop of the
outgoing video -- it still pops on instead of fading from a true 0%.
The videos are preloading (or at least they are getting a yellow ball
signal and telling me they are preloading.)

Specs:
MacBook Pro 15" 2 ghz Intel Core Duo
2 gig RAM
160 gig 5400 rpm harddrive
Radeon X1600 graphics card
QLab is on the laptop harddrive, along with the OS

Western Digital external harddrive
1 terabtye
connected via Firewire 400
stripped as one huge drive (RAID 0, I believe - not the RAID for
extra performance)
All media files and the QLab show file are on this drive.

Ideas? Suggestions? Anyone else solve this??
I've thought about putting a fade up on the front of each source
file, but that's a pain + locks me into things...

I would have expected a laptop this fast would have had no problem
fading video.

thanks,
Jen
