Yes, that the sort of thing I was thinking of.  Is th

...and the option to capture SYSEX would be handy too!  I have in mind 
digital desks that spit out sysex for 99% of their controls, allowing 
'manual' automation of things like reverb sends if the individual sysex 
commands are then send back (eg chan 2 aux send 5 on/off toggling).
