Hello folks,

Last night, QLab made its (probable*) debut in London's glittering West-End.
Screaming crowds surrounded the Duke Of York's Theatre in St. Martin's Lane,
blocking the road as the smitten hordes tried to get a glimpse of the star
of this production.

OK, most of this is true, except I suspect the screaming crowds that really
did block the road might have been more interested in Orlando Bloom in his
first stage production rather than QLab, but I did have to fight my way
through the smitten hordes to get backstage after the first preview. Not a
hugely complex show, but some very subtle moments and a very tight schedule
(tech-ed in a day and a half) gave the program a nice work-out. Kit supplied
by Autograph Sound, based on a very nice dual Mac Mini rack with RME
interfaces and audio and KVM switchover. The Minis are on a pull-out shelf,
strapped down with a custom bracket, so that they can be pulled out easily
for turn on. I programmed from the stalls operating position using my laptop
and Timbuktu.

*I say that this is probably the West-End debut of QLab, because I'm not
completely sure that it is. I know that another hit production, Elling,
using QLab is opening tomorrow, starring John Simm, a UK TV actor. Best
wishes to them and to Jack C. Arnold, the sound designer.

Regards,
