Welcome!
Certainly no horror stories, this is a great piece of software, and
revolutionary for me, who as a Mac user would not use SFX. I've run
Qlab on a number of configurations. The most advanced of which is a
1.9Ghz 17" G5 iMac, with 1.5GB RAM, using a MOTU Ultralite. I have
never had a single problem with playback of the shows I've designed
using Qlab. It has been rock solid. The biggest issues I've run into
were with the MOTU, and I wouldn't really call these "big issues,"
more like mild frustrations. I think the advice with the MOTU is make
sure you have the most up to date driver, and don't just use bus
power. I had the issue with Qlab coming unpatched from the MOTU a
couple of times, but this (it happened three or four times out of
thirty or so shows) was only when booting the computer and turning
everything on. It was easily fixed by power cycling the MOTU and re-
patching the device in Qlab's audio prefs. We suspect this was due to
a driver issue, and perhaps the fact that I was not using the PSU
with the Ultralite.
I design all of my shows on a 20" 2Ghz G5 iMac w/2GB RAM, and I tech
them on a 1Ghz G4 PowerBook w/1Gb RAM. The shows always run flawlessly.
On another note, Chris, what do you think about a "Configuration"
section on the Wiki? Where people can post the systems they are using?
All the best Dan,
Rory
