Chris, in the design of Qlab, did you consider the option of putting
all the sound files together with the workspace file, either in a
folder or a bundle? i.e. When you select a sound file it would
actually copy the file.

Advantages:
1) No need for a concept of "working directory".
2) In the case of a bundle, you can copy what seems to be a single
file to another Mac, and it'll work straight away, and be guaranteed
to have the entire show.
3) You can backup what seems to be a single file to DVDR or flash
drive, and it'll be certain to hold the entire show.
4) Doing housekeeping on sound files won't have the danger of
deleting a file that's needed for a show.
5) If a sound file is used for more than one show, at present there's
a theoretical danger that modifying the sound for one show will
change what happens in another show.

Disadvantages:
1) In the case of a bundle, the individual sound files aren't
obviously available in Finder to manipulate or edit with other
applications.
2) Uses more disk space.

Last month I had my Mac break down, and had to restore from backup to
another borrowed Mac, and fix every single sound cue in the 30
minutes before the start of a show. The concept of a single bundle
that holds everything and will work no matter where in the directory
structure it is something that would have saved me a lot of stress.

Cheers,
Steve.
