Yes, I do think I understand the essence of what you're saying.  Of  
course, you also correct to point out the tricky bits too, such as  
trying to display different timelines on the same horizontal display.

I think there could be interesting experiments to try here.  It would  
be very cool to interact with the cues more directly--stretch them  
out to increase their duration, move the fade envelope to change the  
volume, etc.

This is definitely all in the realm of QLab 3.0 though.  One step at  
a time.  :)
