Hi Matt,
Thanks for your thoughts on the matter. You bring up some insightful
points. I also had one other person contact me off-list (thank you!).
If anyone else wants to influence my thought process on this topic,
now is the time to do it. :) Make your case for your desired
licensing model, and it may mean I'm more likely to do it that way.
Also, to describe more clearly my current plan:

There are two aspects of the licensing that I think will probably be
true:
1) Each license will be for use on one computer, so each copy you use
you'll need to have a license for.
2) There will indeed be a number of free updates to 1.0 as I continue
to work on the program. Some features will be reserved for a 2.0
release, but my current plan is to make all 1.x updates free to
registered users. Then, when 2.0 is released, it would most likely
be cheaper for 1.0 users to upgrade to 2.0.
